I really wanted to say thank to everyone that came out the AGM on April 22 and to all the wonderful volunteers that made it possible for us to put on such a lovely evening. Especially Chef Vivian and our kitchen helpers, you all brought the lovely meal together! And thank you to Brian Brett for providing us with some wonderful storytelling, everyone really enjoyed their time hearing you. We hope to make this a tradition to celebrate LUSH Valley and local food. Cynthia
This Saturday Drop-In Cooking will start at 2:30pm. We each bring a food item to add to the dish, cook together, eat together, and leftovers are donated to Food Not Bombs. Food Not Bombs is a volunteer group that feeds homeless people on Sundays. If you would like to attend this Saturday we are making a pasta salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and salmon. Please let me know if you will be attending, Cynthia: firstname.lastname@example.org or 250-331-0152.
To allow time to gather more participants for Food Skills for Families the series of workshops will be postponed until May 25th. You have more time to decide if you would like to participate! Give us a call to find out more: 250-331-0152.
Food Skills for Families is a six session healthy cooking program that teaches healthy eating and cooking in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Developed by the Canadian Diabetes Association, the program is designed for the unique needs of low-income families.
Taught by Chef Vivian Cruise, each 3-hour session will strengthen your cooking confidence and skill; improve your understanding of safe food handling and storage, meal planning, healthy snacks, shopping and much more. Featuring flavourful recipes from around the world, you will learn how to modify recipes and cook from scratch. You’ll learn how to make salad dressings with what is in your cupboards, how to make delicious and healthy roasted vegetables in season, and how to add variety and zip with inexpensive ingredients.
The program is free, and runs on Saturdays 10am - 1 pm from May 4th to June 15th. Lunch is included
Session 1: Variety for Healthy Eating
Session 2: Fabulous Fruits, Vegetable and Whole Grain Goodness
Session 3: Meat and Alternatives, Milk and Alternatives and Healthy Fats
Session 4: Planning Healthy Meals, Snacks and Beverages
Session 5: Savvy Shopping Grocery Store Tour
Session 6: Celebration!
The Food Skills for Families program is hosted by LUSH Valley in our kitchen at 1126 Piercy Ave. in Courtenay. It’s free! If you are interested, contact us at 250-331-0152 or email@example.com.
Dear Community Leaders,
Please forward this email to your members.
For the next six months, Melissa Call and Sunshine Organics is working with farmers, producers, and consumers to try to help expand the local market for local products, and create a support network for both producers of agricultural products and consumers who want to buy local first.
Because you are a producer of agricultural products, either as a farmer or a value-added producer, your feedback in our survey would be very helpful to our efforts. We are asking that you please fill out this survey to help us in our efforts to create a stronger buy local network. Feel free to forward this link to people you know. The more responses we receive, the easier it will be for us to gauge where we should focus our resources.
Thank you in advance for your help and participation,
On behalf of Melissa Call, Rachel Mooney, and Sunshine Organics,
So cool this week we have had two volunteers visiting from out of town helping out around LUSH Valley, doing some light renovation and decorating. Thank you Leona and Carl! This Saturday at 2:30 pm the preparation for the AGM will continue. It is count down time, the AGM is super close! This Saturday we will be doing one of two things, either out in the garden constructing the beds or in the large board room painting the floor and decorating the ceiling and walls. See you there! Cynthia
Next class: Friday April 26th (the April 15th class has been cancelled)
Time: 9am to 6pm
please bring lunch and a beverage
Cost: $80.00 or $60.00 for LUSH Valley members
Come cook with us this Saturday. Lets make a curried soup, bring something to add to the pot! Conversations on Food: Drop-In Cooking will start at 1:30 pm. Cook together, eat together, and share the left overs with Food Not Bombs (a group of volunteers that feed homeless people on Sundays). More information contact Cynthia 250-331-0152 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
